Minda exists to create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, and is committed to the pursuit of the highest quality of service to the maximum number of people.
Minda is an aboriginal word meaning place of shelter and protection. Minda opened in 1898 to provide a home and environment for children with an intellectual disability. The organisation expanded rapidly and by the 1930's it was operating from Brighton and Craigburn Farm, at Blackwood, to provide a training area and supply the Minda community with its food needs. Today, Minda provides accommodation, centre based respite care and aged care services to people with an intellectual disability. Employment (as outlets such as Minda Packaging Services & Trak Furniture) and other services provide opportunities in sport, leisure and the arts help meet the needs and aspirations of clients to participate in work and other options. Minda currently provides services and support to over 1,100 people with an intellectual disability.
Minda is extremely proud of the high standards of services it continues to provide to people with an intellectual disability and their families throughout South Australia. Minda is a not-for-profit registered charitable organisation and support through volunteering or making a tax deductible donation is very welcome and greatly appreciated.
