Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is part of a wide ranging neuromuscular disorder affecting muscles, nerves and nerve endings, it may impact both sexes at birth, mid-life or older and effects about 1:1000 of our population.
Currently there is no cure and MD may typically confine those with this disorder to a wheelchair as it progressively reduces muscle coordination and capacity.
Research is being conducted world-wide and hope continues for that necessary breakthrough.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association Inc's (MDA) mission is to "enable all individuals, families and their carers affected by neuromuscular disorders to have as full and active a life as possible".
To do this MDA (founded in 1954) assists it's clients by offering a range of individually unique equipment assistance, various therapy provisions, consultation and counselling across clients - families - and carers alike, camps and retreats, respite provision and both supported employee and volunteer work related opportunities.
Being a not for profit organisation MDA is almost solely dependent on public fundraising to achieve client related and focused outcomes.
