Deaf CanDo, the State's second oldest charity, provides services and programs which help to equip the Deaf community with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to live independently while having access to a full range of community services and facilities.
The Royal South Australian Deaf Society was established in 1891.
The services Deaf CanDo offers to the community include:
- Assist Deaf persons to promote and extend their social, education and occupational activities;
- Promote public interest in the welfare of Deaf persons;
- Develop maximum opportunities of access to general community services;
- Advocate on behalf of Deaf persons;
- Interpreting support;
- Provide specific support to aged Deaf persons with other disabilities;
- Support the provision of housing to Deaf people in need.
Funding for Deaf CanDo is raised through sponsorship, donations, bequests, grants, lotteries and events. With 15 per cent of our overall funding coming from the Government.
Deaf CanDo's sister organisation is CanDo4Kids and both organisations are managed by parent organisation CanDo Group Charities.
